SUNDERLAND BOYS THROUGH TO SEMIS

UNDER-15 TEAM SEE OFF LIVERPOOL IN QUARTER-FINALS

Sunderland district schoolboys Under-15s moved into the semi-final of the esfa National Cup after a hardfought 2-1 win over Liverpool schoolboys

Sunderland started the game well with forward Harry Gardner forcing the Liverpool keeper into action.

The Wearsiders piled on the pressure in first 15 miutes, the front three of Gardner, James Harrison and Liam Chrystal causing plenty of problems.

Sunderland took the lead on 30 minutes after Max Kilsby’s free kick was floated into the box and defender Keallen Huddleston headed towards goal.

A Liverpool defender headed it away into the path of Chrystal, who smashed home the rebound.

Liverpool started the second half better and brought out a great one-handed save from keeper Callum Dobson.

Sunderland stood strong with man-of-the-match Logan Pye having a great game at centre-half alongside Luke Hannah.

Sunderland went further ahead when centre midfielder Josh Barnett broke away from midfield to cross into the box for Gardner to score and make it 2-0.

Central midfielder Lewis Connelly forced a great save from the Liverpool keeper with a strike from outside the box.

Sunderland lost Lewis Lukeman to injury with 15 minutes to go but, despite conceding a goal, held on for a fantastic win over themuch fancied Liverpool boys.

Sunderland travel to Halifax for the semi-final early next month.
