Penshaw Catholic Club maintained their 100% record and their position at the top of the league, but were made to work for their latest victory over a well organised Wallsend Boys Club outfit.

Chances for both teams were few and far between in the first half, with Penshaw having to play the last ten minutes with 10 men after Lee Ellison was sent into the sin bin for dissent.

However, Penshaw dominated the second half after Paul Taylor linked well with John Spence to score the only goal of the game.

Minutes later, Taylor became the second Penshaw player to be sin binned.

However, the Penshaw defence never looked in trouble and they could and should have added further goals, but Andrew Arnold missed a superb opportunity after being set up by Brett Cummings.

Ferryhill Greyhound inflicted Marden’s first defeat of the season with a well-deserved win at Blue Flames.

Leading 2-0 at half time through goals from Carl Beasley (penalty) and Stephen Quinn, Wayne Edgecombe added a third late in the second half to put the match beyond doubt.

Although Femi Akinbolu scored a late Marden consolation near the end of the match, Ferryhill’s application and desire made sure all three points went back to Durham.

Hartlepool Workies had an excellent 5-3 win at Killingworth in the Premier League, with all goals coming in the first half.

Killy took an early lead, but Workies hit straight back to level through Alan Hoey.

Stephenson then kept out a penalty, but could only watch as the hosts were quickest to the rebound.

By the half hour mark, Workies were in front for the first time, James Parkinson first crossing for Andy McKenna to head home, then setting up Mick Waller.

Tigger Lyons volleyed them further ahead, but poor defending allowed the hosts back into it.

Right on half-time, Waller restored the two-goal lead after more good work from Parkinson.

Houghton Cricket suffered their first defeat of the season in the Villa Real Cup.

Hartlepool Tech started stronger and took the lead after a good move.

However, Forster equalised with a header from a Jones free-kick to level at half time.

The second half saw Hartlepool the better team and scored two more to make the final score 3-1.

Durham Bede Lodge and Willow Pond played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

The deadlock was broken when Pond centre half Andy Norman stormed out of defence to clear the ball from the centre circle, his clearance went into the top corner catching out Bede keeper Andrew Neil.

The lead was short lived because Pond lost possession and that allowed Richardson through on goal only for Willow defender Darren Smith to foul him trying to clear the ball.

Richardson then fired home the penalty to equalise sending the keeper the wrong way.

A great counter attack by Willow's Stuart McKie had saw him play a deft ball down the line to Gary Golightly, who then crossed to Ralph Dodd.

Dodd controlled the ball at the far post and calmly slotted home to retake the lead.

Bede won a free-kick just outside the Willow box and Pallas curled in a great cross for Lee Pratt to score with a bullet header and draw the sides level again.

Hartlepool Stag & Monkey were in action in the Kip Watson Villa Real Cup, hosting Richmond Town, and they edged a nine goal thriller with a 5-4 victory.

Brendan Deer hit a hattrick for Hartlepool and he was backed up with further goals coming from Ian Good and Michael Angus.

In Division Two, Raby Arms hosted Hartlepool Catholic Club in a Hartlepool derby which ended 1-0 to the home team.

Raby began much the better and created chance after chance, with Nicky Lloyd, Andy Barry and Simon Blackett going close.

Raby edged themselves in front when Neil Readman raced down the wing and crossed low for Blackett to poke home.
