IAN HAILS PLAYERS’ POSITIVE RESPONSE

-

Farringdon Detached manager Ian Stewart hailed his side for their “positive attitude” during their dramatic win against Boldon CA.

Boldon made the perfect start to the game as they took the lead on 17 minutes with a goal from John Murray – but they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline at half-time as braces from Perri Agnew and Jason Alexander put the hosts in control.

Crumbie’s side reacted well to their half-time teamtalk and got themselves back on level-terms thanks to an own-goal and strikes from Codie Howe and Dan Nolan.

That put Boldon in the ascendency and they looked set to go on and find a winner – but an error from goalkeeper James Lone with just five minutes left allowed Agnewtocompletehishat-trick and give the hosts all three points.

Stewart – who lost top goalscorer David Stevens to Northern League club Birtley Town this week - told The Echo: “It’s a great result for us after a really challenging few days for the club.

“We did well in the Durham Challenge Cup against Birtley Town, but then I got a text from them to say that they were putting in a seven-day approach for David Stevens. We asked certain players to step up and they have done that.

“Perri Agnew played up front and he got a hat-trick, which is fantastic for him.

“To kick on the way we did, to get the result in the way we did after throwing away the lead through some silly mistakes, says a lot about my lads.

“It’s a real confidence boost for us because we have been in poor form – but it shows the positive attitude that we have in our dressingroom.”

Silksworth CW moved into fourth place in the table with an impressive 4-1 home win against FC Hartlepool.

Connor Campbell was on target for the visitors – but it was Silksworth that claimed the points thanks to goals from Chris Thompson, Nicky Smith, Bryan Wood, Joe Jones and Tom Hunter.

Darlington Town moved level on points with leaders Horden CW with a comfortable home win against Annfield Plain.

A brace from Jim Wilson and a goal apiece from Gareth McMahon and James Beauchamp helped the hosts to a 4-0 win at Eastbourne Sports Complex.

Gateshead Leam Rangers became the third side to sit on 24 points at the top of the table as they won by the odd goal in five at West Auckland Tunns.

The visitors were two goals down inside the opening 25 minutes thanks to early strikes from Marc Bell and Liam Blighe, but came back to claim the points thanks to two goals from Darren Morton and one from Robbie Houghton.

Captain Aron Burn grabbed the only goal of the game to give Hebburn Town Reserves all three points at Richmond Town and Durham United and Darlington RA failed to break the deadlock over a low-key 90 minutes at New Ferens Park.

Windscale striker Darren Donald put in the outstanding individual performance on Saturday as he plundered his way to five goals in their 6-1 home defeat against Coxhoe Athletic.
