West End finding their way – Liddle

-

Sunderland West End joint-manager Darren Liddle wants his side to “practice what they preach” after they were held to a home draw by Brandon United in Division Two.

West End came from behind to take a 2-1 lead in the early-stages of the second-half as Cameron Old and Kieron Martin found the net to help their side put Lewis Charlton’s early strike behind them.

But an equaliser from Lewis Martin ensured that the points were shared and left West End with just two wins from their opening eight leagues games of the season.

Liddle said: “It was disappointing in some ways because we dominated the game. We could have had double-figures, but we just aren’t taking our chances at the moment.

“We have also found that any mistakes we are making are punished at this level.

“But I think we have found our feet in the Northern League – we have changed our formation to be tighter and to try and stop those mistakes.

“We had a really honest and open meeting after the game and a few things were said.

“Now we have to take what was said and practice what we preach.”

Easington Colliery put in their best performance of the season to inflict a first defeat in 11 games on Jarrow.

Josh Home-Jackson hit a brace for the Colliers and there was a goal apiece from Simon Todd and Jack Pounder as they claimed a 4-2 win at Welfare Park.

Liam McBryde and James Norton were on target for the visitors.

Birtley Town moved into the top four as John Sherlock and Chris Stevens were on target in their 2-0 win at third-placed Ryton & Crawcrook Albion.

Morgan Clayton and Luke Bailey both scored twice, but that wasn’t enough to prevent Willington falling to a third consecutive league game as they lost a ten-goal thriller at Newcastle University.

Robert Shields, Fraser Colling and Dale Milburn were all on target in Tow Law Town’s 3-0 win at Carlisle City.
