Shaw hits hat-trick as Catholic power through in Burrell Cup

Peterlee Catholic Club crushed Wingate Howden 9-2 in the Tommy Burrell Memorial Cup.

Gary Shaw hit a hat-trick and there were two goals apiece from Jack Pounder and Liam Wintrip, with Rob Renwick and Chris Freeman completing the scoring.

Dave Cummings and Dean Wallace replied.

Another side to hit nine goals were Seaham Parkside who

hammered Seaham Red Star FC 9-0 with a brace from Michael Kennedy and Dean Bulmer, and further efforts from Kevin Price, Oumzil Youssef, Andrew McGhinn, Matthew Seddon and Shane Docherty.

Seaham Marlboroug­h edged out Haswell Oddfellows Arms 5-3 with a double from Reece Huntley plus efforts from Lewis Wilkinson, Lee Elliott and Sean Rollin. Arthur Dolan, Ian Morrell and Damien Hope all netted for the Oddfellows.

Thornley Harrys Bar and Horden Legion finished 2-2 but it was Harrys Bar who went into round two after winning the penalty shootout.

Sub Ethan Maddison netted twice for Harrys Bar with Damien McAuliffe and James Kennedy repling for the Legion. In the second preliminar­y round of the Durham County Sunday Cup, Easington Colliery Mechanics hammered Sunderland Park View

8-0 with four players all notching a brace in Jack Garside, Nathan Graham, Lancelot Brightwell and sub Liam Owen.

Two goals apiece from Jordan Garside and Stephen Tilley paved the way for Easington Lane WMC to reach the next round when they beat Billingham the Merlin 4-2, while a hattrick from man of the match Reece Brymer saw Horden JD’s bar defeat their league rivals East Durham FC 3-0.

Danny Naylor and sub Jordan Fenwick helped Peterlee Helford Utd to a narrow 2-1 win against Stockton Queen Vic and Easington Leather Cap with a brace from Lee Cleary and an effort from Joe Taboun saw them beat Sunderland Redhouse 3-1.

South Hetton CC won 6-0 against Washington North End thanks to goals from Liam Houghton (2), Matthew Johnson, Brandon Cook, Nathan Adamson and Liam Watson.
