Easington hit back for fourth win in row

Easington Colliery came from behind to win for the fourth consecutiv­e league game against Birtley Town.

Aaron McEwan put the Hoops ahead on 20 minutes, but it was their visitors that claimed the points thanks to a Jack Pounder brace and a late strike from Josh HomeJackso­n.Redcar Athletic remain at the top of the table after Connor Smith, Michael Woodhouse and Jordan Rivis all scored in their 3-2 win at Newcastle University.

West Allotment Celtic recovered from their first league defeat of the season by romping to a 5-1 home win against Bedlington Terriers.

Shane Jones scored a hattrick for the second consecutiv­e game and there were also goals from Matthew Hayton and Abu Salim as Allotment eased to all three points.

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion lie in third place as Scott Jasper scored the only goal of the game in their win at Tow Law Town.

Spurs could have sunk given their recent troubles, but they rallied and Kane put them back in front before a fine rearguard action saw them hold on to win a vital three points.

"It was [a massive result]," Kane said. "Obviously we have had a couple of disappoint­ing results recently, and going down to 10 men after 30 or 40 minutes, whatever it was, it was tough.

"Absolutely, it showed the character of the team. We're going through a tough spell, but we put everything out on the pitch.”
