A touch of 1970s window shopping

David Taylor:

I used to love going into Durham Bookshop which I think was on Albion Place.

Ian Maggiore:

Durham Book Centre. More a vinyl emporium for me. I was never out. They even released an LP championing local bands. Proper community shop run by academic types husband and wife but nice with it. Even their kids eventually ended up there.

Sharon Shazza Lee:

Binns, Geordie Jean's, Shoefayre, C&A, and Woolworths and Joblot to name a few.

Linda Brown:

The Arcade should never have been demolished. Chippy's, Walkers the jewellers, Hills, Milburns, Jackson's the Tailors, Rishdons, Callers Pegasus, Carricks, Breckners, Liverpool House… The list is endless – lovely old shops. Doubt people will reminisce about Poundland/ stretcher, B&M, Heribs and the Red Shops in 30 years time. Same goes for the clubs.

Karen McCaffrey:

Durham Book Shop. It was brilliant for books, posters, badges etc.

Jean Mitchell Wynd:

Blackett's, Books Fashions, Sargent Peppers, Caslaws, The Red Shop, Berges Record Shop, The Strand and many more. STORY Hays Travel has continued to take on axed Thomas Cook staff following the company’s collapse last week

Dean Butler:

Hays Travel pulling an absolute blinder off! Helping a lot of struggling people out and the travel industry alone. My wife works in the Yarm branch and all the staff are working all the h ours to help as much as they can. The most enjoyment is seeing all those poor people who had weddings let alone holidays now put to the right places and are now happy once again! Well done, Hays.

Gill Coughlin:

We always book with Hays Travel, they can’t do enough for you when you are looking for holidays and their after service as well.
