Seaham take win after test from visitors

-

Seaham made it three league wins in a row but it was nowhere near as comfortable as the 42-12 scoreline against Richmondshire may suggest.

The visitors went ahead with an early try after several missed tackles.

Seaham fought back strongly and levelled matters when Jack Adamson picked a lovely gap in the centres and glided through before firing a scoring pass to Jack McCallum. Conor Jones converted for a 7-5 lead.

The Harbour extended their lead on 21 minutes when Glen Hardie took a James Bromley pass and blazed 30 metres to touch down in the corner.

A Jones penalty extended the lead, and Seaham capped a tough first half in style when the forwards turned over opposition ball in midfield and the ball was shipped right for Craig Jones to touch down in the corner making it 20-5.

Four minutes after the restart, Mick Bland caught a lineout 20 metres out. A powerful rolling maul was driven over and skipper Chris Bland pounced for the bonus point try.

Within five minutes, the big second row was yellowcarded for not releasing after being tackled. Within a minute, Richmondshire scored a converted try to make it 25-12.

At the other end, Brad Green hit the breakdown and popped the ball for John Dixon to score. Jones added the extras.

A yellow card then saw the visitors reduced to 14 men – and they were made to pay when Jones drew a tackler in before offloading for John Dixon to touch down.

Man of the match Sean McCallum completed the scoring with a good try.
