Resurgent Houghton kick off Inter County League with a win
next month.
In the Women’s Inter Club League, Houghton and South Shields went head-tohead, and the early exchanges saw Houghton race in to a 13 shot lead and despite a late Shields rally, Houghton held on for a smashing 6-4 (+6) win.
At Houghton, Joan Rodgerson steered Joan Watt, Olwyn Charlton and Susan Forster to a decisive 21-5 win over C.Bennett, while Ellen Faith’s quartet defeated D.Sproates 20-17 to secure the home leg by 19 shots.
At Jack Clark, both Shields rinks won, Nina Riches, A.Jameson, Pamela Byrne and J.Craic beat Norma Stephenson 21-14 and Karen Paterson, Irene Kirtley, Ann Upsall and Pam Carlin beat Joan Baker 20-14 to secure the home points for Shields by 13 shots.
The November round of games will see Houghton tackle Gateshead and Shields face Great Aycliffe.
In the Men’s Vets League, Houghton Kepier have rearranged the home game against Durham B for Thursday, October 24.
