Miles of traffic built up on the A690 Durham Road heading for Sunderland on Monday morning as the A19 assessment work began ahead of future roadworks.

Imagine this for nine months while the work is taking place and also having to navigate the traffic delays at Testos roundabout.. alternativ­e routes through New Herrington also have delays… not good.

Debbie Hannah:

People will find different routes so it’s pointless doing it all week.

This will improve the road in the long run why are people complainin­g?

It's an absolute joke. They are going to do the work anyway so why have a week of pointless closures. What are they going to widen?

Total stupidity, it’s a busy roundabout like they cannot just see it will cause disruption after one day is enough but no let’s do it all week.

Anyone would know if you block lanes off there are going to be jams & congestion.

A top dog with a nose to catch crooks has been honoured at Northumbri­a Police’s annual awards ceremony.
