Mystery surrounds £2k cash bundles
Bundles of £20 notes left in plain sight remain a mystery to village police officers working to discover their origin. have thanked honest members of the public who have repeatedly handed in the mystery parcels of cash, which keep turning up in various locations across the village in Blackhall Colliery.
The unusual discoveries have been made 12 times since 2014, with the latest find taking place on Monday, November 18.
Left in plain sight, the money bundles almost always value £2,000 and are made up of a bundle of £20 notes.
Detective Constable John Forster, of Peterlee CID, said his team have interviewed numerous people and organisations in the village.
Police have also carried out checks with the local bank and post office and even tested the notes for fingerprints. But the circumstances surrounding the bundles of money so far remain a mystery.
He said: “These bundles are always left in plain sight such as on pavements and discovered by random membersof the public who have all been honest enough to hand
them in. “This is the fourth bundle which the public have handed in this year.
“This could be the work of a Good Samaritan but we would like to thank the residents who have shown their incredible community spirit by handing the parcels of money in.
“The circumstances remain a mystery so we would welcome any information that will help us get to the bottom of these random incidents.”
