Cathedral's free entry offer to National Lottery players

-

Durham Cathedral aims to thank National Lottery players by offering free entry to their award-winning museum.

To mark the 25th birthday of the National Lottery, the Cathedral will be offering visitors who present a valid National Lottery ticket or scratch card free entry into its award-winning museum, Open Treasure.

The offer is valid from today until Sunday December 1.

Officials at the Cathedral say it is their way of thanking the National Lottery

– and the people who play it – for helping good causes.

Marie-Therese Mayne, exhibitions officer at Durham Cathedral, said: “Heritage Lottery Funding was an important part of making Open Treasure a reality, so we’re delighted to give something back to those who have supported National Lottery causes.

“We would like people to come and explore our permanent exhibitions and the story of St Cuthbert, as well as our monastic Great Kitchen where the treasures of St Cuthbert are on display.

“These include the 7th century wooden coffin that was used to carry Cuthbert’s body to Durham by the monks of Lindisfarne, as well as his gold and garnet encrusted pectoral cross.”

The offer will be valid between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday, and 12.30pm to 4pm on Sunday.

On Sunday December 1, the offer will be valid between 12.30pm and 3pm.

*The Durham City Christmas Festival markets are also taking place from November 29 to December 1 in the cathedral cloisters.
