Swindon keen on Grigg

-

Swindon Town boss Richie Wellens admits that the club could be interested in pursuing a deal for Will Grigg this month.

The Sunderland striker’s future is uncertain after the arrival of Kyle Lafferty, with Phil Park in son likely to add another forward player before the January window shuts.

Grigg has been an unused substitute in his last five games, but the Cats are wary that his record is such that loaning him to a League One club could majorly benefit a promotion rival if he finds form. That has raised Swindon’s interest, as they search for a replacement for Eoin Doyle. Doyle is the top scorer in the Football League this season, but was recalled by Bradford City last week. Asked about Grigg, Wellens said: “Maybe. Eoin Doyle was, so maybe, we’ll see.”

Wellens went on to admit that he wanted an experienced operator to replace Doyle, rather than looking to loan a talented U 23 player.

“I have to go after those kinds of players because the under -23 options are out there, but I want someone who has got a belief he can come in and score goals,” he said.

Nigel Clough has admitted that Sunderland target Liam Boyce could have played his last game for Burton Albion.

The striker netted his 14th goal of the season in the Brewers’ 1-0 win over MK Dons, with Clough saying that it may have been his final outing at the Pirelli Stadum. With Burton out of action for ten days, there is a chance a deal for the Northern Irish international could be sealed in the interim – with Hearts believed to be rivalling Sunderland for his signature. Clough revealed that the club knocked-back a bid for Boyce, but reports have suggested that a fee of £250,000 could clinch a deal.
