Patient survey gives top marks to hospitals

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust patients have responded very positively in local surveys on hospital and community health services.

Between October and December 2019, almost 10,500 surveys were completed by patients attending South Tyneside District Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital and Sunderland Eye Infirmary in relation to their experience as in-patient and day cases.

The survey also took in maternity, outpatient­s and A&E services and patients using mental health and community services. Among the findings were: *97% of patients would recommend the Trust

*Overall satisfacti­on with mental health services was 99%

*Overall satisfacti­on with community services was 98%

*98% of women would recommend the Trust’s maternity services

*98% of day patients or those attending an outpatient department would

recommend the services

*97% would recommend the ward they had treatment on

*95% of patients felt they were treated with kindness and compassion

*87% of patients thought their hospital was clean

Melanie Johnson, the Trust’s executive director of nursing, midwifery and allied health profession­als, said:

“Whilst the responses from our patients in recent survey are very positive and encouragin­g, we are never complacent.

“Our aim is to continuous­ly improve our services for patients and their families and carers, from their very first contact with us right through to their safe discharge from our care.”
