Grimes, Moon and Fisk won it for the hosts but Thorney kept themselves in the game with goals from Alexander and Wilson.

In the Premier Division sponsored by Middleton Jewellers, Pennywell Comrades DST Shutters won 5-3 against The Lansdowne.

Pennywell’s Billy Wyatt was given his marching orders but they were still to strong for the visitors, David Snowdon scoring two, Harrison, Baxter and Waters one each.

Lansdowne hit back through Halliday (2) and Redman.

Ltd, The Queen Vic sit jointtop after an easy 4-0 win over Wearmouth CW.

Appleby started the scoring then Nathan Stavers scored a quick double. Bamborough hit the fourth.

Redhouse are still plugging away in hope of claiming a promotion spot, and beat Westend the Potters 3-1 after a double from Jack Callaghan, and Liam Goldsmith scoring late in the game.

The Potters had a late reply through Brad Foster.

Goals from Trotter and Metcalfe were not enough for The Board Inn to take anything away from their game with Herrington CW, the away team winning 3-2.

In the Second Division sponsored by Ringtone Mobile Phones and Tablets, an emphatic 8-1 win for Washington over The Stella saw them increase their lead at the top to seven points and take another step towards the title.

Baddams and Stephenson both scored two each, followed by further goals from Trow, Smith, Williamson and Mason. The Stella responded with a Gav Teasdale goal.

A Craig Richardson brace keeps Myers interested in the promotion places come the end of the season as they drew 2-2 with Ryhope, who also look set to have a major say in the run-in.

They had Mallam and Middlebroo­k rescue a point.

The Carpets Centre Elite won 2-1 at home to Wear United.

Lakeside SSC got back to winning ways after they beat relegation favourites The Victory Club 2-0 to keep the pressure on the other promotion hopefuls in Division Two.

Lewis Murton and a fantastic strike from sub Robert Usher gave the Lakers the points.

In the Third Division sponsored by DST Shutters, Layton Conley claimed a point for his Park View side with a late goal as Sunderland North were expecting the 1-0 win, Jaque Cook scoring for North.

AFC Houghton had a massive say in the title race as they beat league leaders Washington New Tavern 5-3 to leapfrog them to the top of the table.

Ogunsuyi, Fletcher, Morrison, Teasdale and Wadey fired Houghton to the top and the Tavern had McIntyre, Longstaff and Liddle keep them interested.

A good away win for Millview CIU saw them move into the exciting promotion places after their 5-1 win over Grindon Broadway.

Clasper hit his team’s solitary strike and Millview had Laing (2), Conlin, Gordon and Clifton notch for the victory.

Washington Cherry Tree moved closer to the important promotion places with their 3-2 away win over Millfield Free Gardeners.

They won the game after McDonald, Carter and Cook scored, and the Gardeners replied thanks to Hutchinson and Jones.

Velocity are still rooted to the foot of Division Three after they were closely beaten – 4-3 – by The Grange, who have moved into joint-third spot.

Burns, Brown and Blakeman scored for the home side but The Grange secured the win after goals from Raine, Lane, Barras and Mather put them in control.
