Comrades leave their league form behind to reach cup semi-finals

-

Wet and windy weather once again played havoc with the Chilla Pizza Peterlee and District Sunday League and cup programme with only eight matches going ahead.

Three of those were quarter-final ties in the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup and while Shotton Comrades are struggling to find their form in the Premier Division, they made it into the semi-finals of this competition with a 2-0 win against Horden United thanks to goals from Lewis Robson and substitute Greg Forster. Joining them in the last four are the top two clubs from the Premier Division in Peterlee Catholic Club and Dawdon Wefare Park.

The Catholic Club cruised to a 3-0 win over South Hetton Cricket Club with their goals coming from Jamie Gray, Oliver Hotchkiss and Jack

Pounder.

Dawdon Welfare Park had more in hand after hammering Seaham Marlborough with substitute Robbie Bird banging in a four timer. Also on the mark were Craig Ellison, Michael Bulmer and Jordan Thompson while Niall Cowell scored a consolation goal for Marlborough. In the first leg of the Cyril Dunn Memorial Cup semi-final, a brace from Joe Taboun along with a strike from Graham Hornsby saw Easington Leather Cap win 3-1 against Sherburn United, whose reply came from Andrew Elliott. Despite Jordan Garside and Kyle Scott being on target for Easington Lane WMC, they bowed out of the Heart Foundation Cup after losing 3-2 to Bishop Juniors FC Pavilion. Goals by Daniel Salmon, Brian Smith and Ian Craggs kept Easington Victory in with a chance of reaching the final of theGeorgeIveyMemorialCup as they lost their first leg 4-3 against Hetton Lyons FC who had braces from Jonathan Glenwright and Matty Wray. Two league matches went ahead with Peterlee Helford United stretching their lead at the top of the first division to five points after hammering Thornley Harrys Bar 7-0 with two goals apiece from Matthew Smith and Daniel Bedding

plus one by Joe Spalding, Kieran Purvis and Ryan Clish.

Goals from Andrew Elliott and Ryan Dinsdale were enough to keep Roseberry Park top of Division Two after a hard earned 2-1 win over Haswell Oddfellows Arms who had Andrew Daley on target and Anthony Rookes sent off having received two yellow cards. The sides meet again on Sunday in the George Ivey Memorial Cup semi-final.
