TEENAGER ELISHA’S ON A CRUSADE FOR MEDICAL KITS TO HELP NHS
Acaring Sunderland teenager has started a campaign to help kit out NHS staff with the equipment they need to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
Elisha Coates, 14, decided to take action to help the NHS staff who are on the front line of treating those who have contacted COVID-19.
Like many youngsters across the country, the St Anthony’s pupil is not able to attend school following Government measures to slow the spread of the illness.
However, the Downhill teenager wanted to use her time at home as a driving force for good.
She was inspired to launch a Go Fund Me appeal in aid of the NHS after her friend suddenly became ill with the condition.
The appeal looks to raise £100 for the Northumberland and Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust charity to help go towards equipment staff may need.
On her Go Fund Me page Elisha said: “The NHS is lacking in equipment such as ventilators, so I’ve created a fundraiser to hopefully help!
“It’s already becoming a trend for boys to shave their heads during the isolation period because they can’t get haircuts.
“So I’m asking for a donation – big or small – from everyone who does this. “Let’s make it a trend! “Donations from non-participants are also welcome, everyone can do their part to help.”
And mum Lindsay Taylor couldn’t be prouder of her daughter’s effort.
She said: “It is something Elisha felt that she is able to do because we are all in isolation.
“Cornavirus has affected her, as her friend and their mam were diagnosed with COVID-19.
“All of her friends have started to realise the seriousness of this and come on board to raise awareness.
“Quite a lot of her friends are shaving their heads because the barbers are closed, so Elisha put a status up saying that if they are going to do that then why not do it for a cause.
“So they are now posting photos with the #shavetosave to raise awareness.”
