A Sunderland mum and daughter are penning lockdown letters, complete with hand-drawn illustrations, to lift people’s spirits during the pandemic.

Jules Eachus, a calligrapher and stationery designer from Ashbrooke, has a chronic illness and has been self-isolating since March 16.

The businesswoman, who owns The Inkling Studio, started writing letters to relatives and friends, especially the elderly who don’t have access to technology to keep in touch, so she could maintain contact.

She received such a great response from the letters that she’s decided to offer them as a service to people around the country.

The letters come with hand-drawn illustrations from her daughter Milly, 11, which feature everything from a cup of tea to a pink slice.

It comes as the Echo is running its #actsofkindness campaign to highlight the amazing things people are doing to help others in their community.

Jules said there has been an excellent reaction to the letters that she is creating to help ease ease loneliness and isolation.

She told the Echo: “We have been given such lovely feedback from people who have received a letter and it means so much to me and Milly to know we’re helping ease loneliness and isolation, even if only in a very small way.”

She added: “As I've finished all my letters for now to friends and family, I thought I'd offer this to anyone who wants to send a positive, chatty letter to a friend or relative in the UK.

“I'm charging 70p, just to cover the cost of a stamp. I can either write a letter from me (mentioning that you've asked me to write of course) or you can send your own words which I can scribe for you.

“I can also include a free handwritten recipe - simple ones, using basic, storecupboard/freezer ingredients.”

We’d love to share the #actsofkindness to help spread some positivity at this difficult time.
