STORY:

The Covid-19 lockdown is a “necessity” to save lives as the UK continues to fight against the spread of the virus, says Echo readers.

David Braley: The virus is not not being spread or caught by those obeying the lockdown guidelines, they're inside, it's those tramping the streets claiming its exercise or other excuses and taking pictures that are spreading the virus. Yvonne Wilson: Plenty down sea front Wednesday morning. Christine Lamb: We’re allowed to go for walk.

Mark Adams: Should be more severe restrictions on travel as in Spain. I see loads of people flouting the recommendations. Parties in garden, regular visitors, family outings in car, scumbags on unlicensed motorbikes churning up local football pitches etc. We need to start fining people.

Debra Jenkins: Virus is only going to reoccur after lockdown anyway if no vaccine. Clair Louise Bellfield: Sad reality is probably every one is going to get it unless there's a vaccine sorted quickly but then we won't see affects from the vaccine for years maybe decades, we need to slow the spread to help the nhs. The lock down isn't to stop the virus it's to slow it, we will all get it some won't show symptoms some will get sick some will get very sick and heartbreakingly some will die, it's a very very scary time we are living in and we all need to get through it as best we can #staysafe

Lee Murray: Vaccine could be years away. Something has to give.

Sharon Houghton: I think if we carry on being sensible and adopting the social distancing stance we will reduce the viral load and some of us may still get it but a mild version of it.

Vic Nonya: Unless once contracted it gives immunity but we just don’t know if it will. The economy still has to run to some extent otherwise we run out of money.

Carol Wyatt: I think a lot of people think this is to stop it when in reality we can't stop it. Its all just to stop everyone getting it at once so they have enough hospital beds. They have said it will be at least a year for a vaccine but they need to take their time or the vaccine could cause more problems x
