Mother's praise for maternity team

-

A mum has praised the dedicated maternity team at Sunderland Royal Hospital who delivered her baby during the coronavirus pandemic.

Parents Laura and Andrew Carroll welcomed the arrival of their beautiful little girl Isla Lily on Monday, April 20 following a planned C-section.

Weighing just 6lb 11oz their little bundle of joy came into the world at 11.55am and both mum and baby were able to come home the following day.

Little Isla is one of 386 babies born at Sunderland Royal Hospital during the coronavirus pandemic, thanks to the efforts of its maternity team, which is continuing to provide outstanding care at this challenging time.

Mum-of-three Laura, 36, from Grangetown, has praised the team for they way they cared for her and little Isla.

Keen to reassure other expectant parents who may be concerned about delivering their baby during the pandemic, Laura said: "From admission to discharge everyone that looked after us was truly amazing.

“Everything was so smooth and organised. The staff are all so happy and dedicated despite the current situation. We were looked after so well by all.”

Praising maternity staff, matron Dawn Edmundson, added: “Our maternity staff in both South Tyneside and Sunderland are doing a fantastic job and have safely delivered 386 babies since lockdown began. We really appreciate everything they are doing to make sure women and their families continue to receive outstanding care and our friendly team of midwives are here to answer any questions mums may have during this challenging time.”
