Bid to get Whitburn community to 'shop local’
More than a dozen businesses in Whitburn Village have joined together in a campaign to encourage families to support independent and local firms during the coronavirus crisis.
In a message to the local community, the firms – from dog groomers, to a tattoo parlour, to cafes – created a composite image with a touching message to the families where they work.
While some places have had to close due to lockdown restrictions imposed by the UK Government, staff are still calling for the public’s support when businesses begin to reopen going forward.
It said “We are all in this together.
“Shop local, support our locally-owned Whitburn businesses. “Thank you NHS.” Not all businesses in the village were contactable as some are closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but all are welcome to get involved with the campaign going forward.
The businesses involved so far include:
The Grooming Room; Madasafish; De Giorgio; Whitburn Coastal Flooring; Tutti Frutti; La Belle Amie; Whitburn Barber’s; Highly Efficient Heating; Whitburn Ink; Fancy That; Riva; East Street 19; Whitburn Cafe; Miles Thursby Sales and Lettings; Clipperz.
Miles Thursby, who owns and runs an estate agent in the village, added: “We have decided to try and do something as a community.
“And have a bit of fun to remind people that all of us are small, independentlyowned businesses and we going to need some help from the village to keep us going and keep the village alive.”
