Four more COVID cases confirmed

Another coronaviru­s-related death has been confirmed in Sunderland’s hospital trust.

New figures from NHS England yesterday, show there have been 288 confirmed coronaviru­s-related deaths in the South Tyneside and Sunderland trust’s hospitals.

Across the North East, 1,139 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

Nationally, the latest daily figures showed a further 383 people who tested positive for coronaviru­s (COVID-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 22,432.

Patients were aged between 28 and 100 and 41 of them, aged between 28 and 96, had no known underlying health condition.

The latest numbers from Public Health England on

Wednesday show there have been 1,227 confirmed cases in the city, up from 1,223 the previous day.

A total of 8,395 people have tested positive for the virus in the North East, a rise of 64 on Wednesday, as follows: County Durham: 1,572; Sunderland: 1,227; Newcastle: 955; Gateshead: 888; Northumber­land: 819; South Tyneside: 611; Middlesbro­ugh: 589; North Tyneside: 495; Stockton: 380; Redcar & Cleveland: 337; Darlington: 306; Hartlepool: 216.

Across the UK, 201,101 people have tested positive for the disease, a daily rise of 6,111, and 30,076 people who tested positive have died.

In total, 1,139 people who had tested positive for coronaviru­s have died across the North East’s hospital trusts.
