Three more patients die of coronaviru­s

The NHS has confirmed three more patients have died after testing positive for coronaviru­s as they were being cared for by Sunderland’s health trust.

The number of deaths across the region now stands at 1,245, with three of the latest deaths recorded by NHS England for South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust among the nine confirmed yesterday.

Nationally, the NHS has said a further 122 people, who tested positive for the coronaviru­s have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,739.

Patients were aged between 47 and 100.

Seven of those patients, who were aged between 50 and 85, had no known underlying health condition.

According to the latest figures released by Public Health England on Sunday, there are 9,522 confirmed cases of coronaviru­s in the North East – a rise of 26 from Saturday – as follows: County Durham: 1,821; Sunderland: 1,351; Newcastle: 1,022; Gateshead: 982; Northumber­land: 913; South Tyneside: 714; Middlesbro­ugh: 634; North Tyneside: 551; Stockton: 502; Redcar & Cleveland: 386; Darlington: 351; Hartlepool: 295. In total, 1,245 people who had tested positive for coronaviru­s have died across the North East’s hospital trusts, including:
