Plan to convert office block into apartments
An office complex could be transformed into apartments under new plans lodged with Sunderland City Council.
Applicant JGO Consultancy Ltd has applied to the authority to redevelop Parsons House, off Parsons Road, Washington, into 32 flats across four floors.
The existing site has parking provision for 72 cars and a mixture of open plan and cellular office space inside the building.
Under new proposals, the building could be repurposed as 31 two-bed and one one-bed flat with access taken through the ground floor reception area.
A statement on behalf of the applicant describes the site as “highly sustainable and a suitable location for residential use”.
It goes on to say: “The site location is within excellent walking and cycling distance of local services, including hospitals, schools, employment and shops.
“The site is also extremely well connected to transport services via the existing road network and associated bus services.”
Applicants added the change of use would not create any increase or change in traffic in the vicinity of Parsons House.
Comments on the plans can be made by writing to Sunderland City Council’s planning department before Tuesday, June 16.
Updates on the proposals are also expected by the end of July.
Planning officers will then pull together a report taking in all the information and representations before a final decision is made on whether or not to grant planning permission for the proposals.
