Docksuns are back with a fitting sound for summer

-

on bass and Glenn Laws on drums, have released a teaser video for their new single Dancing on the Radio, which will be released on June 5.

After a successful 2019 performing at the Airshow and Sounds of Sunderland festival, as well as headline slots at Independent and Think Tank in Newcastle, the band took a break over Christmas but were looking forward to a summer of gigs.

They were due to perform a gig in London before lockdown hit, forcing all live performances to be cancelled, but are hoping to build their audience through an online presence until they can be back on the stage.

Neil said: “Performing live is what we do best and there’s nothing like performing for a crowd, but as circumstances have changed we’re focusing on what we can do online for now and hoping to connect with our fans that way.

“We were all gutted when it happened and it’s shocking for the music industry. I’m not sure how social distancing would ever work at a gig, so it’s difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but hopefully a bit of normality will come back. We can’t wait to perform live again.”

The band are so passionate about their home city that they named the band after being “sons of the dock”, because most of them grew up around Roker, and their music is often inspired by Wearside.

This new track is a slight departure from their usual sound though.

Dancing on the Radio was recorded at Blank Studios in Heaton before lockdown.

Neil said: “It’s definitely a song for the summer when you’re sitting in your garden with a drink. Some of our songs are emotional, but this a happier one. It’s a catchy one and a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes.”
