No new coronaviru­s cases reported in city

No new coronaviru­s cases have been reported in Sunderland as the city’s NHS hospital trust confirms no further deaths.

NHS England recorded no new coronaviru­s-related deaths yesterday, at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, meaning the total number of deaths at the trust remains at 321.

Public Health England also reported that there have been no new COVID-19 cases reported in the city,leaving the total standing at 1,382.

This leaves the city’ s infection rate at 498.2 per 100,000 people, the fifth-highest of all local authority areas in England.

In total, 1,365 people who had tested positive for coronaviru­s have died across the North East’s hospital trusts according to yesterday’s figures – a rise of seven since Thursday.

A further 123 people, who tested positive for coronaviru­s have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,282.

Patients were aged between 38 and 105. One of the 123 patients (aged 86) had no known underlying health condition.

Deaths are announced on an NHS trust level – there is no public breakdown of the number of deaths per hospital. According to Public Health England, there are 10,332 confirmed cases of coronaviru­s in the North East as follows: County Durham: 2,028; Sunderland: 1,382; Newcastle: 1,067; Gateshead: 1,008; Northumber­land: 1,030; South Tyneside: 746; Middlesbro­ugh: 680; Stockton: 611; North Tyneside: 622; Redcar &Cleveland :427; D arlington: 393; Hartlepool: 338.
