MacAnthony calls on EFL to act quickly after vote
Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has called on the EFL to show leadership in the aftermath of this week’s crucial vote over the fate of the 2019/20 campaign.
MacAnthony’s side look set to be one of the clubs hardest hit when League One go to the polls today, with the third tier season expected to be curtailed with final standings decided on a nun weightedbasis. Such a move would see Posh – who have been in and around the top six all season–fallout the play-off places.
And while the club haveadmitted defeat in their attempts to see the campaign finished on the field, MacAnthony hopes that this ordeal will inspire some long-term change at the EFL .“We need a strong EFL after this is over ,” he said,speaking to his‘ Hard Truth’ podcast.
“We need them to tell the clubs when we will start the new season and when we will know the fixtures. We can’t have any more of this voting nonsense. We can’t have clubs not wanting to play because they can’t have fans in the stadium. The EFL need to lead.”
MacAnthony has also pledged to launch a‘ Vengeance Tour’ as the club head into the 2020/21 season – and is determined to achieve promotion.
“I’m calling next season the Vengeance Tour,” he added.
“We will have the largest chip ever seen on a shoulder. We will get a promotion push going. We know the players we want to sign and we know the players we will allow to go.
“The players are devastated right no was they just wanted to play football. I’ve told the manager to take a long holiday and come back refreshed and raring to go. I hope we are back on July 31 ready for a two-month pre-season and the new season to start on September 30.”
