No new virus-related deaths across region

No new deaths have been reported across the North East in the latest coronaviru­s figures, with Sunderland recording its sixth clear day in a row.

Figures released yesterday by NHS England show no further fatalities throughout the region’s hospital trusts, with the figure still standing at 1,397 since it began publishing the statistics at the start of March, with the first death across the North East and Yorkshire recorded on March 15.

It means South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has reported its sixth day without a death.

A breakdown of where patients are from is not available, with the trust responsibl­e for both Sunderland Royal and South Tyneside District hospitals.

The trust last reported a death relating to the illness on Monday, June 8.

The total number of deaths at the trust remains at 323.

Across England, the NHS has confirmed a further 27 people, who tested positive for the coronaviru­s have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,954.

Patients were aged between 50 and 101-years-old and two of those people, one aged 77 and the other 96, had no known underlying health conditions.

It has said the figures include five deaths which have been reported with no positive COVID-19 test result.

The total number of people who have tested positive for the illness on Wearside was 1,386 which is 499.6 cases per 100,000 people, with an update expected later today.
