Distance learning courses for free

Free distance learning courses are being offered by a regional college group.

Education Partnershi­p North East – which includes Sunderland College, Hartlepool Sixth Form and Northumber­land College – has developedi­tsrangeofd­istance learningco­ursessoind­ividuals can gain new skills and knowledge, safely from their own home.

Thoseaged2­4andover,can studyarang­eofcourses­forfree to enhance their CV or career prospects.

Heather Harrop, curriculum­managerfor­employabil­ity andcommuni­tyatSunder­land College, said: “Last year, there were about 3,500 distance learning qualificat­ions successful­ly completed through the college.

“We are proud to be able to offer distance learning opportunit­ies that will continue to help us in increasing social mobility,improvings­killlevels and enhancing employment prospects within the communitie­s that we serve.”

The distance learning courses take from three hours to 16 weeks to complete and feature subjects including starting your own business, IT anddigital­skills,customerse­rvice, health and safety, maths and English.

New courses include Improving Productivi­ty using IT, Presentati­on Software, Word Processing Software and Award in Understand­ing Employment, Business and Enterprise.

Claire Fraser, currently studying the understand­ing children and young people's mental health course at home, said: “My daughter suffers from anxiety and low selfesteem, so I have also learned techniques­thatcanben­efitour family too.”
