Bullmastiffs seized after attacking another dog
Northumbria Police have seized two bullmastiffs after they attacked another dog in Ryhope.
Police have confirmed that two bullmastiffs were seized following the attack on Friday.
Officers were called to The Grove at around 11am after receiving reports that two bullmastiffs, who were not under the control of an owner, had attacked and seriously injured the other dog.
The Echo understands that the dog survived the attack but remains in a critical condition following the incident.
Police arrested two men for suspected offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act but were both later released without charge.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly after 11.05am on Friday (June 12), we received a report of two bullmastiffs having attacked a dog belonging to another member of the public, causing serious injury on The Grove, Ryhope.
“It was also reported the two dogs were not under the control of an owner.
“Officers attended the scene and conducted a search to locate the dogs and trace their owners.”
The spokesperson added: “Two men were subsequently arrested for suspected offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act but later released without charge and both dogs seized.”
Northumbria Police have also confirmed there will be no further investigation as no people were physically harmed in the incident.
There is no information at this time on what the fate of the two bullmastiffs being held by police will be.
