Bullmastif­fs seized after attacking another dog

Northumbri­a Police have seized two bullmastif­fs after they attacked another dog in Ryhope.

Police have confirmed that two bullmastif­fs were seized following the attack on Friday.

Officers were called to The Grove at around 11am after receiving reports that two bullmastif­fs, who were not under the control of an owner, had attacked and seriously injured the other dog.

The Echo understand­s that the dog survived the attack but remains in a critical condition following the incident.

Police arrested two men for suspected offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act but were both later released without charge.

A spokespers­on for Northumbri­a Police said: “Shortly after 11.05am on Friday (June 12), we received a report of two bullmastif­fs having attacked a dog belonging to another member of the public, causing serious injury on The Grove, Ryhope.

“It was also reported the two dogs were not under the control of an owner.

“Officers attended the scene and conducted a search to locate the dogs and trace their owners.”

The spokespers­on added: “Two men were subsequent­ly arrested for suspected offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act but later released without charge and both dogs seized.”

Northumbri­a Police have also confirmed there will be no further investigat­ion as no people were physically harmed in the incident.

There is no informatio­n at this time on what the fate of the two bullmastif­fs being held by police will be.
