Parents have been urged to speak to their children to deter them from using laughing gas which can prove deadly. Durham Constabulary's team of officers in Peterlee has issued the plea after empty gas canisters were found littering locations in the town.

Bob Langley: They are everywhere. There are loads of groups of lads/ girls about and most seem to be up to mischief. They need to get back to school as clearly their parents have no idea what they have been doing.

Tracey Weatherill: Yup like the kids were doing it up Tunstall Hill the other week. Anything happens they have 0 chance of surviving. Andrea Buttling: Personally think it's worrying - I've teenagers n I'd hit the roof if I found they were doing this. Can't understand the attitude of the "kids will be kids" brigade.

Kelly Ledger Gibbs: I found loads along with an empty tent at Penshaw monument last weekend.

Julie Hoggarth: Yes I picked 2 up at seaburn beach didn't know what they were.

Joe Watson: I am afraid you will find them everywhere nowadays a sign of the times I guess.

Marley JJ: I’ve seen empty canisters on the play park at Doxford park/ st Matthews playing field.

Bernadette Breen: Who is selling this? Make them stop.

Darin Brooke: Stop giving them the money to buy them, wake up.

Kev Mewes: Where do they get them if they are illegal.

Carrie Smeltzer: They are sold to restaurants something to do with whipping cream but obviously kids have discovered a different use for them its so scary that something meant for normal purpose has turned into something else x Sara Bates: Been loads round mine it’s terrible.
