Child’s play

-

Every day, I consider myself lucky that I get to work with so many enthusiastic fundraising volunteers, holding our fair share of bakes, balls, and coffee mornings across the North East.

Maybe your readers have always wanted to fundraise for the NSPCC, but never found the opportunity to start?

Perhaps you were always ace at the egg and spoon race, or baked a cake that Mary Berry would be proud of.

Now it’s time to bring back those childhood talents and transform them into your very own NSPCC fundraising event.

The NSPCC’s third Childhood Day is taking place today and we want to bring everyone of all ages together to celebrate everything that’s great about being a kid.

You could host your very own sports day with members of your household in your back garden, or at a local park.

You might want to get dressed up and hold a virtual party eating jelly and ice-cream with friends and family over zoom or skype.

You could even use old clothes and a bit of creativity to craft a new outfit based on your favourite cartoon character!

Childhood day is an opportunity to embrace our favourite fundraising memories, and use them to raise money to help the NSPCC be here for children.

Across the UK, between January 10 to May 10 2020, our Childline Service has delivered 6,938 counselling sessions to children and young people who are worried about coronavirus and lockdown.

From the counselling sessions we have delivered, we know there has been a direct impact on children’s mental health - and that those children who are living in homes which are not safe, or where there is violence, addiction or abuse are finding it especially difficult during lockdown.

That’s why, this Childhood Day, we need people across the North East to step up and be a big kid, to help raise vital funds for the NSPCC.

Every penny will go towards our wide range of work helping children across the UK – and your support has never been more important.
