Sunderland Airshow set to take off online
Organisers of the Sunderland Airshow are set to hold an online event after the weekend had to be cancelled following the outbreak of COVID-19.
The Sunderland Airshow is set to take place online this year after the event had to be cancelled following the coronavirus pandemic.
Organisers have confirmed that a virtual airshow will take place between Friday, July 24, and Sunday, July 26 – the days on which the event was meant to be held.
When the airshow was cancelled in April, Sunderland City Council’s Assistant Director of Culture and Events, Victoria French said it was a “difficult decision” to make.
Viewers will be able to watch performances from favourites such as The Red Arrows and the RAF Falcons
Parachute Display Team.
A post on the official Sunderland Airshow Facebook page said: “As we enter the month of July our thoughts turn to the Sunderland Airshow weekend.
“This year we cant have our usual event so we're bringing the Airshow online to you.
“Tune in to watch classic displays from crowd favourites including The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows, The RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team, a pair of C-47 Dakotas and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight plus many more.
“We'll also be showing much more than flying displays over the weekend of 24-26 July so make sure you keep an eye on this page for more updates.”
This summer will be the first time in 32 years that the airshow has been cancelled.
