Coronaviru­s death toll remains at 325

The NHS trust which runs Sunderland’s hospitals has reached its 25th day without recording a death linked to the coronaviru­s – with no new cases reported.

The statistics released by NHS England yesterday, show no rise in the number of deaths at the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Sunderland Royal, as well as South Tyneside District Hospital.

The total number of deaths remains at 325, with the last death reported on Sunday, June 21.

The latest figures also show no rise across the North East, with its total standing at 1,424.

The last death to be recorded at a North East NHS Trust was in County Durham on Wednesday, July 8.

Figures released yesterday show a further 19 people who tested positive for coronaviru­s have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,144.

Patients were aged between 52 and 91 and all patients had known underlying health conditions. Figures released by Public Health England yesterday show no new cases have been reported in Sunderland, with the last confirmed on Wednesday, when two were reported in the statistics, following on from one new case confirmed on Monday.

The total number of cases in the city stands at 1,772.

Across the region, 12 more have been confirmed, with three in County Durham, two in Gateshead, five in Stockton, and one in Redcar and Cleveland and another in Darlington.

It brings the North East total to 15,183.
