Logan, four, stepped out to help save zoo
Moved by the struggles of zoos during the coronavirus outbreak, a Sunderland four-year-old set about raising money to support animals in need.
The parents of Logan Jones say they are so proud of their little boy who walked almost 50km to raise funds to support a Chester Zoo’s Save Our Zoo campaign during the coronavirus pandemic.
Logan, of Silksworth, had overheard a conversation between his parents Melanie and Neil Jones about zoos not being able to open during the COVID-19 crisis, which could mean animals going hungry.
Melanie, 33, said: “When he overheard us talking about how zoos were unable to open, back at the start of the pandemic, we spoke to him about how we could raise some money to support them and he loved the idea.
"We originally set about on a challenge to walk 25km during the month of June.
"He got so involved he was always asking if we could go for walks.
"Normally he’d complain his legs were tired and he’d wanted to be carried but he’d walk all the way."
Not only did the youngster almost double his target by walking 48.6km, Logan raised more than £300 which will go towards the campaign by Chester Zoo.
Melanie, who works at the Foundation of Light, said: “We’re so proud of him.
"He’s got such a big heart and he loves animals.
"It’s like he’s four going on 40 – he’s so aware of everything.”
Chester Zoo, which has now been able to reopen to the public, needs to raise £1.6million every month to keep going.
