Two new confirmed cases of COVID-19

Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sunderland, taking the total number of confirmed cases during the pandemic to 1,781.

Other figures released yesterday by NHS England show that no further coronaviru­s-related deaths have been recorded at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust for 37 days.

The total number of deaths at the trust remains at 325, with the last death to be recorded by the trust on Sunday, June 21.

In total, 1,425 people who had tested positive for coronaviru­s have died across the North East’s hospital trusts, with no further deaths reported yesterday.

Nationally, a further 12 people who tested positive for the corona virus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,303.

Patients were aged between 45 and 99. All had known underlying health conditions.

Deaths are reported by trust only and there is no public breakdown of deaths per hospital. Public Health England’s latest figures, also released yesterday, show 11 more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the North East, including two in Sunderland. The city’ s total now stands at 1,781.
