Champions Burnmoor and Hetton Lyons set early pace

scored 55 from 80 balls, which included five fours and two sixes in a total of 105 all out.

Robert Talbot claimed 3-31 and there were two wickets apiece for Sam Dinning, Connor Whitelock, and Andrew Ebdale.

The home side struggled at first, as Mickey Allan and Mark Turner claimed two wickets each, but a knock of 35 runs from Jake Pratt made the difference, guiding his team home to a winning total of 109-5.

Hetton Lyons have won their two opening fixtures, and hosted Boldon at their Lilywhite Terrace Ground, winning comfortabl­y by eight wickets.

The visitors only managed 90 all out, after deciding to bat first, with Karl Turner claiming a match winning 6-11 from his eight overs.

‘Man of the match’ Turner then bagged a half century, scoring 50 from 56 balls, which included five fours and two sixes, putting on 87 runs for the first wicket, with opening partner Ben McKinney making 30, in a winning total of 96-2, off just 22 overs.

Washington are second in the West group, after winning their opening two fixtures, this time at home to

Lanchester.

The visitors decided to bat first, making just 99 all out, as Liam Hickey with 4-25 and Adam Hickey 3-20 bowled very well, with only opener Graham Brinton resisting with 26 runs.

In reply, the home side finished on 100-3, as opener Josh Wilson made 29 and Adam Hickey 26, to seal the win by seven wickets.

Sacriston lost at home to Willington, but they made a healthy 187 all out, as Solomon Bell weighed in with 35 and Ross Whitfield Jnr 34, while Lewis O'Donnell claimed 3-18 with the ball.

The visiting opening batsmen put on 82 runs for the first wicket to lay the platform for the win, as Reece Carr made 40 and Adam Khan 64, to seal the win on 193-5.

Burnopfiel­d head the group, as they hosted Crook and won a low scoring game by four wickets.

Tom Bolan with 4-19 took the bowling plaudits in a total of just 78 all out.

But the visitors fought back hard, with Steve Chapman taking 3-15, but a vital 26 by Jonathan Pears made the difference in a final score of 79-6.

In Durham and North East Cricket League Frank Lees Cup Group A, South Shields and Hylton have both won their opening three games and are neck and neck, at the top of the group.

Shields entertaine­d Dawdon in a reduced ‘28 over a side match’ and the visitors put them in and they scored 161-8, as opener Luke Elliott smashed 45 from 55 deliveries, hitting five fours, and also Liam Dixon made a useful contributi­on of 25 runs from 21 balls.

In reply, Dawdon started well as skipper Steven Gale smashed 61 from 70 deliveries, which included 10 fours, but they ended up on 133 all out, thanks to a splendid bowling performanc­e from Alex Thompson who returned figures of 6-25 from six overs, to win the game for his team.

Hylton won at Seaham Harbour by four wickets, as they chased down the hosts’ 120-9, with a revised target of 101-6, to go second in the group.

In Group B, Littletown, Brandon and Mainsforth, have won all their three opening matches, with leaders Littletown winning at Tudhoe, by just two wickets.

Tudhoe batted well with William Jewitt (36), James Curry (39), Daniel Thexton (39) and Andrew Carrick (37), all making useful contributi­ons with the bat, in a final total of 190-6, with Bryan Conlon and Matthew Fishburn taking two wickets apiece.

The visitors had a shaky start, but Fishburn with the bat made 42 and David Craig a useful 26, in a match winning partnershi­p of 53 for the fourth wicket, guided their team to victory on 191-8, despite three wickets coming from Daniel Thexton.

Durham City travelled to Easington and lost a close encounter, by just seven runs. Having lost the toss for the third week in a row, Easington batted first and with Dave Tarn returning he went on to make top score in their innings with 37 and Faz Hussain made a valuable 23 to help them up to 72-3.

A middle order collapse saw Easington slip to 102-8 however Omar Shahid was the next player to go with the score on 116-9.

A last-wicket partnershi­p between two younger members of the team in Josh Broome who went on to make an unbeaten 26 and Grant Akers who scored 24 and the pair added 45 runs together before the innings closed on 161.

City were on 102-8 before a late revival.

Shahid got rid of the key City batsmen in his spell taking 3-25 and late in the innings Hussain, Dane Wilson and star man Akers all claimed two wickets each with Akers getting the last wicket to end the City innings on 154.
