Easington chase third win on spin in derby

-

Having won their last two matches in the Frank Lees round robin tournament, Easington will be hoping to make it three wins in a row when they take on their derby rivals Peterlee at home today.

The 21-run victory at Esh Winning last Saturday has raised the hopes of possibly qualifying for the latter stages of the competition due to be played in September.

Club spokesman Arthur Broxson said: “It was another great result for us and although we still have a lot to do to reach the latter stages of the competition, we will be giving it our all starting tomorrow when we take on our derby rivals Peterlee at home.

“Last weekend saw us score 282-5 from our 40 overs, thanks mainly due to 109 from skipper Jason Moses and 84 from Omar Shahid.

"We then defended our total on the small ground and it was a bit nervy at times, however we dismissed our opponents for 261 giving us the win we needed.”

Moses shared a third wicket partnership of 171 with Shahid and earlier in the innings Jonathan Davis made a solid 32 runs.

Esh Winning needed seven runs an over in reply and they made a go of it before falling 21 runs short on 261.

The wickets were shared around with Shahid, Dane Wilson and Jonny Ruddock all claiming two each. Late in the game, Moses took off his wicketkeeping pads to have a bowl and picked up two wickets in his first over.

The team to take on Peterlee at home will be chosen from: J Moses, D Wilson, F Hussain, O Shahid, D Tarn, J Ruddock, G Akers, C Robson, J Goodrum, I Rickaby, J Wilson, J Davis, A Price, A Fox, J Broom.
