Suspected drug dens raided after tip-off

-

Operation Gallop lived up to its high speed name when officers quickly tore down the door of a suspected drug den.

Tipped off by concerned locals, officers spent weeks gathering intelligence before executing search warrants at two Sunderland addresses on Wednesday and using force to break down one front door.

Once inside one property, cops unearthed wraps of white powder, tubs of cannabis bush, cannabis baggies and drug paraphernalia galore.

The property was empty at the time officers came knocking although a suspected drug dealer has since been identified by police.

Sgt Mark Ellis, who led Operation Gallop, said: “This was a joint operation that involved a host of officers from across the Southern Neighbourhood teams and it wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for community intelligence and vigilance.

“We want to send out a strong message that this kind of illegal activity will not be tolerated and anyone found to be involved in the producing and selling of drugs will be dealt with robustly.

“These warrants will continue but we need the support of our local communities. If you see any suspicious activity then please report it to police so we can take action.”

If you live in the Hendon area and suspect drug dealing in your area then you can send pictures, video or intelligence to the neighbourhood team by emailing 2515@northumbria. pnn.police.uk.
