Whitburn fall short with a batting collapse at Eppleton

The home side won the toss and made 162-8, as they struggled from the off. However, Ryan Dowens made a breezy 70 from 80 balls, which included five fours and two sixes. On the bowling front, Joseph Maddison, and Karl Bellerby each took two wickets.

Boldon were solid from the start in reply as Oliver Sampson-Barnes (39) and Joseph Coyne (41) steered their team to victory, despite Shaun Hauxwell (3-10) taking a late flurry of wickets, to finish on 163-7.

Chester-le-Street lead the Banks Salver West Group on run rate after defeating Willington at Ropery Lane.

Batting first, the Cestrians made 153 runs thanks to George Harrison, who scored 47 from 56 balls, including 10 fours.

Cameron O’Donnell kept the score down by taking 3-25 from his eight overs.

The visitors then collapsed to 77 all out, with Jamie Dass top scoring with 24 runs to his name. Liam Simpson delivered 3-9 off eight overs and John Harrison took 4-12 to clean up the rest for a 76run win.

Sacriston are still without a win in the group after they lost out by five wickets at home to Washington.

They decided to bat first and made a reasonable 165-8, with Martin Hubber scoring 44 and Nathan Hall 37, as they put on 51 runs for the fifth wicket. Liam Hickey, Mark Watson and Ash Thorpe each took two wickets.

In reply, the visitors had opener Josh Wilson to thank as he made 35, before Adam Hickey scored 41 and Joe Thompson 45 not out, to bring-up 166-5 and clinch the five wicket win with an over to spare.

The weather resulted in the postponeme­nt of many Durham and North East Cricket League Frank Lees Cup Group A matches but leaders South Shields strengthen­ed their position at the top with a seven-wicket success at Seaham Park.

The home side batted first but made only 104 all out, as Chris Stewart ripped out the top order with 4-20 before Liam Dixon claimed 3-17. Dave Hanson top scored with 18 from 51 balls.

In reply, Shields soon had the match won, with opener Luke Elliott hitting 54 not out from 72 balls, to give his side a vital victory finishing on 108-3 from 22.3 overs.

Boldon CA also avoided the weather in their match at Marsden. They batted first, but limped to 113 all out, with Karl Birkett top scoring with 22 runs. Chris Mann was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-25, while there were two wickets each for Matthew Hughes, Ryan Little and Colin Mann.

The home side then took just 21 overs to seal the win,

Chris Mann making 47 runs, while Mathew Evans and Owen Peterson both made 22 each, finishing on 113-2.

Littletown still lead the pack in Frank Lees Cup Group B on run rate, despite a defeat at third placed Mainsforth.

The home side racked up 207-4, as Ryan Nicholson (42), Chris Coatsworth (30), and a breezy 48 not out from Aidan Cummings, from just 51 balls, set the visitors a tough target.

However, the visitors never really got going and apart from 41 runs from Thomas Nicholson, they ended up on 120 all out, as John Cavanagh took 5-33 to claim the 87-run win for his side.

There was a run fest at the game between Brandon and

Durham City, at the Brandon Sports Club.

City made a mammoth 255-9, with Dom Scott (83), Callum Steel (30) and Jonny Harding (45) in the runs.

The home side lost both openers cheaply but a magnificen­t 131 not out from Gordon Muchall sealed the win. His runs came from 118 balls, which included 15 fours and three sixes. Jordan Grosert added 48 as they both put on 107 runs for the third wicket in a total of 258-5.

Esh Winning are fourth, following a low scoring match at Tudhoe.

They made just 91 all out after deciding to bat, with opener David Lawlor top scoring with 34 runs, while Gavin

Paton (3-15) and William Jewitt (4-14) did the damage with the ball.

The visiting bowlers were also on form as Jonathan Hodgson (3-16), Paul Chivers (2-24), Ishan Ul Haq (2-13) and Connor Surtees (2-15), bowled them to a narrow eight run win as the home side crumbled to 83 all out.

Hunwick won a high scoring game at Murton by eight wickets. The home side made a healthy 196 all out, as Josh Greenfield top scored with 43, while Fergus Hopper and Ashley Proud each claimed three wickets.

In reply, skipper Chris Pratt made 69 not out and Chris Smith an excellent 80, as they romped to 197-2.
