Easington claim derby success to extend run

-

Easington’s winning run continued when they had three wickets and plenty of overs to spare in defeating their Frank Lees Cup Group B derby rivals Peterlee.

Peterlee batted first and despite a third wicket stand between Edward Dunn and Keith Allison, with Dunn going on to make 33 and Allison 29, they were finally bowled out for 150.

The partnership was broken when regular wicketkeeper Jason Moses came in and dismissed Dunn.

Moses, in his five-over spell, claimed a further two wickets to finish with 3-36 while Faz Hussain went one better in taking 4-27 from 7.2 overs and Jordan Wilson bowled a superb end, conceding only 18 runs from his eight overs to finish with 2-18.

Easington were in control of their own destiny batting second and chasing 151 to win looked a modest total.

However, they lost seven wickets along the way but had plenty of overs in hand at the end when the winning run was scored in the 29th over.

Faz Hussain crowned a great day adding to his four wickets with the ball when he made top score of 38, which included four boundaries, and he got support from Omar Shahid who added 25.

Late in the innings Ian Rickaby made 22 before Easington claimed their third win from five to keep them in touch for a place in the latter stages of the competition.

Evenwood are still bottom after losing by seven wickets at home to Ushaw Moor.

Thomas Teesdale Jnr made the highest score of 31, while Josh Clifford led the bowling with 3-32.

Ushaw skipper Lewis Cook scored 35 not out to claim victory on 110-3.
