Raising a glass to The Stackyard’s award

The Stackyard in West Herrington has been awarded a Travellers Choice Award by TripAdvisor, placing it in the exclusive club of the Top 10% of restaurants worldwide.

The Travellers Choice Awards are given to those venues that have the best reviews, ratings, and savings that travellers share from across the globe.

The Stackyard, run by Lee and Katrina Quinn, has recently undergone a refurbishment involving a fivefigure investment.

Katrina Quinn, publican of The Stackyard, said: “We cannot believe that we have been given this award.

"It is a fantastic achievement and is down to the hard work and dedication of our team. Our little local family pub in West Herrington is our pride and joy and we must thank all our customers for making this award possible.”

During lockdown, the team at the Stackyard cooked more than 400 meals for the NHS staff at Sunderland Royal Hospital. Since the pub has reopened, they are still cooking meals for the frontline staff, and are now accepting donations for their local foodbank.

Lee Quinn said: “We have all experienced some unnerving times recently, but we have been delighted that we have been able to play a small role in giving something back to those who deserve our support and gratitude.

“We already knew many of the nurses at the Royal Sunderland Hospital before we were hit by COVID-19 as they had come into the pub. We wanted to make sure that they had what they needed while they faced what will probably be the most difficult time in their whole careers.”
