How to still book best spot on Benidorm beaches in advance
Holidays abroad are back on the agenda, despite quarantine, but UK holiday-makers travelling to Benidorm may find things different during their next visit there.
July 17 was the first full day those visiting beaches at the popular holiday resort needed to have prebooked before arriving.
But what will it be like having to book your own spot on the beach as time goes on?
Holidaymakers will have to book their place at the beach, but this currently only applies to Levante beach, one of Benidorm’s two most popular beaches enjoyed by hundreds of holiday makers.
Benidorm Mayor Toni Perez confirmed the much-anticipated hightech system went live at noon on Thursday July 16, after the beach recently came close to reaching its maximum capacity.
Although the new system was only announced in June, it was not then implemented due to the lack of holidaymakers.
Speaking about the new situation for holiday makers, Mr Perez said: “People will be able to book their spot on the beach for the following day.
“Friday July 17 was the first day that beach-goers had to use the system to be able to access the beach.”
He added: “The system will only be implemented from Thursday July 16 at midday for Levante Beach, where some problems in terms of people being able to enjoy the beach as they should have been detected.
“Controlling the amount of people on the beach is a legal obligation and we want to make sure as many as possible can enjoy sunbathing and swimming as possible during any one day.”
But how will the new system work in practice?
Tourists already have to stay within one of 5,000 13 feet by 13 feet squares marked out on its famous Poniente and Levante beaches. The 13 feet by 13 feet squares are colour coded. Blue colour for general use red marked red for over 70s, who’ve been allocated specific areas.
Those visiting marked out beaches will be able to reserve their spaces online or in person at a reservation stand. To book online, you can visit the Benidorm Beach Safety website.
All travellers returning to the UK from Spain are currently required to selfisolate for 14 days.
