Adam Atkinson hit a brilliant 11-dart leg in the decider to edge out John Kippen 5-3 in a tremendous game.

Atkinson also won in legs of 13, 16 and 18 darts, while Kippen won his legs in 15, 17 and 18 darts.

Atkinson earlier drew with a superb Mark Wright, with both players hitting 180s and Wright having 13 and 14-dart legs.

Wright also drew his other game against David Stokell, with both players’ best legs coming in 14 and 15 darts and Wright hitting a 180 and a 101 finish.

Darren Patton had a excellent 141 finish as he shared the points with Dan Gillibrand, who also fired in a 125 checkout.

Dan Mock picked up maximum points with victories over Geordie Morton and Dougie Hall 5-3 and 5-2 respective­ly.

Morton fared better in his second game with a 5-0 rout of Ross Guy.

Ross had earlier picked up his first point of the season with a 4-4 draw against Barry Rutherford.

Rutherford drew both his games on the night with Andrew Ambler his other opponent.

David Stokell beat David Morris 5-2 in a quality affair, with Stokell's best leg coming in 15 darts, aided by a 124 checkout, with Morris hitting a 180 in a best leg of 16 darts.

John Kippen fired in two 180s and three 17-darters as he whitewashe­d Stephen Squire.

Dan Gillibrand beat Michael Naunton by the same scoreline.

Matthew Hodgson had best legs of 16, 17 and 18 darts as he beat Neil Rose 5-1.

Rose did recover to beat Claire Stamper 5-2 in his second game.
