Prospective Addicks buy could have been the Cats
Thomas Sandgaard – who is hopeful of soon concluding a takeover of Charlton Athletic – has revealed Sunderland was one of the clubs he considered buying.
The 62-year-old Danish businessman is the founder, chairman and CEO of Zynex Inc, which produces medical devices and is based in Colorado.
Sandgaard’s bid to takeover Charlton is progressing following positive talks with East Street Investments, and hehasrevealedhispreviousinterest in several other English clubs including Swansea City, QueensParkRangers,Sunderland and Wigan Athletic.
Stewart Donald is looking to sell Sunderland and has slapped a price tag of £37.6million on the Black Cats.
Born in Denmark, Sandgaard moved to the United States in 1996.
In an interview with Sky Sports,Sandgaardhasclaimed he looked at several clubs – including Sunderland – before deciding it was Charlton he would target for a takeover.
"Istartedusingmynetwork in England to look at what was available," he told Sky Sports.
"Ilookedateverythingfrom the bottom of the Premier League to the top of League One and have had a number of good friends putting out feelers for me.
"Obviously I looked at Sunderlandwithanincrediblehistory,youcallaclublikeQueens ParkRangersandyouhearthat they don't really need money. People were very confused down at Swansea.
"I looked at many things. Of course I looked very closely at Wigan and all along Charlton kept looking the best opportunity.
"Theentirefoundationisliterally perfect. You can take the club to anything you want to."
