Champions too hot to handle for Lyons in top of table clash

The home side were never in it but batted well to reach 172-6 from their 40 overs, with Joseph Coyne scoring 44 and Oliver Sampson-Barnes making 35.

In the Banks Salver West Group, Chester-le-Street went top of the group in style, with a massive 285-run win at Crook.

The visitors amassed a gigantic total of 350-5, with Andrew Smith hitting the ball to all parts and scoring 124 from 68 balls, which included 14 fours and six sixes.

Skipper John Coxon also got in on the act, contributi­ng 88 runs from 74 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes, with Quentin Hughes also adding an unbeaten score of 64 from 36 deliveries.

The home side were never in the run chase, as Quentin Hughes, Liam Burgess and Amaan Ulhaq each took two wickets to restrict Crook to a lowly score of 65 all out.

Sacriston won for the first time this season when they beat Burnopfiel­d by eight wickets.

The home side were all out for 155 runs after deciding to bat first, mainly thanks to opener John Oswell who made 33 and Chris Greaves 22.

Jack Keall claimed 3-50 and there were two wickets apiece for Luke Husband and Nathan Hall.

The visitors comfortabl­y reached their target courtesy of Jonny Bushnell, who batted his way to 68 not out and Ross Whitfield who made 55 not out in an unbroken partnershi­p of 105 runs, in a final score of 158-2.

Lanchester hosted Willington and both teams racked-up the runs but it was the visitors who won a high-scoring game by eight wickets.

Luke McCabe (40), Kieran Gohery ( 33), Greg Patterson (44) and Daniel S t orey (39) all enjoyed good spells at the crease in a decent home score of 202-6.

However, openers Adam Khan cracked 84 runs from 106 deliveries, which included 15 fours, and Reece Carr made 39, in an opening partnershi­p of 103 runs.

James Stock then added 39 runs to the tally for Willington in their winning total of 205-2.

South Shields made it six wins from six matches to maintain their 100 per cent winning record in Group A of the Durham and North East Cricket League’s Frank Lees Cup, with a 68-run defeat of visiting Boldon CA.

Shields batted first and made 148-8 with Sam Embleton top-scoring with 42 runs and Ben Scott adding 37. Rajan Kumarasamy led the bowling attack with fine figures of 4-28.

Opener Thomas Jubb made 29 but his team fell away as Embleton found great form with the ball and claimed an excellent 5-12 to help his side to a comfortabl­e win.

Silksworth took on local rivals Ryhope and claimed the bragging rights for the foreseeabl­e future with an impressive 115-run win that dented their neighbours’ hopes of qualifying for the next stage.

Batting first, skipper Andy Barrass led from the front with a score of 71, while Paul Bradford chipped in with 40 and a sizeable extras tally of 51 helped Silksworth post a final score of 203 all out.

There was an incredible finish to the innings as Jack Tomlin rounded-off a brilliant eight-over spell to record a sensationa­l 7-18.

Ryhope were never in it in reply and although opener Michael Thorpe scored 25, they were eventually bowled out for a paltry 88.
