Ruthless Rickaby rescues Easington

-

It may have been a low-scoring affair but Easington extended their winning run in Frank Lees Cup Group B with a 31-run success over Murton.

A pitch that proved tough to score on, combined with some excellent all-round bowling from the Murton attack, resulted in Easington limping to 93 all out from only 27.5 overs.

Dane Wilson top-scored with a well grafted 29 runs, which in the end proved to be a key factor in deciding the winner. Only two other players made it to double figures, skipper Jason Moses with 12 and Chris Robson made ten.

Easington knew they had to take early wickets if they were to stand a chance of winning the game and they did exactly that with hostile pace from Omar Shahid and Ian Rickaby.

Shahid dismissed the front-line batting order, finishing with 3-14, but Rickaby proved to be the main destroyer with the ball and at the end of his eight-over spell, he had taken superb figures of 6-33.

Faz Hussain claimed the other wicket to fall as Murton were finally bowled out for 62 in 24.5 overs.

The victory means that Easington still have an outside chance of making it through to the latter stages of the competition in September.

Esh Winning are up to third following their convincing 170-run win at Hunwick.

They racked up 223-6, thanks to 93 runs from Shahid Khan, which came off 116 balls and included 12 fours and two sixes.

The home side then capitulated to 53 all out, as Jonathan Hodgson (5-21), Paul Chivers (3-11) and Ishan Ul Haq (2-4) led the attack.
