Bogan wants to establish momentum for promotion
Horden CW assistant manager Lee Bogan wants his side to “get the bit between their teeth” when they host Wearside League new-boys Chester-le-Street United.
The visitors made an explosive start to life at the l e a g u e ’s t o p t a b l e a s J o e Malone, Logan Fawcett, Harrison Clark, Ben Ramsey, Cameron Brewis and Jackson Ward all netted in their 8-0 win at Annfield Plain.
They will face a tougher test when they travel to Welfare Park to face a Horden side that have been tipped to challenge for the league title once again this season.
They got their own season underway with a 3-0 home win against FC Hartlepool on Wednesday as they look to move on from the disappointment of missing out on promotion when last season was curtailed by the coronavirus epidemic.
Bogan is hopeful that his side can build on their midweek win and challenge for promotion into the Northern
League once again this season. He told The Echo: “It’s a very good test for us against a new side. They are a bit of the unknown, they’re a new team coming in and we don’t know a great deal about them.
“They had a great result in midweek, but so did we.
“Hartlepool are always there or thereabouts, and we have never beaten them
in the Wearside League.
“It was a monkey off our backs, and it was a convincing win. We have to build on that, and we are encouraging the lads to get the bit between their teeth.”
Horden will have Sean Ryder and Ewan Simpson back from suspension.
Silksworth CW kick off their first full season under manager Jamie Cole at Farringdon Detached.
Cole has confirmed that Dan Martin, Kieran Beattie, Harry Graham and Reece Blakey will all miss the game.
Their hosts could hand home debuts to summer signings including Liam Laidler, Chris Bell, Josh Tuckwell and James Burlinson.
Washington United visit an FC Hartlepool side strengthened by the return of Brandon Cartwright, Robbie Hammond, Dean Cope and Paul Donaghy.
Durham United will be without Matthew Smith for their home game against Annfield Plain and Boldon CA could hand starts to Stephen Ramsey and Dan Wright at West Auckland Tunns.
