Former Cat signs deal with Southport

-

Former Sunderland defender Jack Bainbridge has signed for National League North side Southport.

The 22-year-old left Wearside this summer after a twoyear spell at the Stadium of Light with the Under-23 side.

Bainbridge is from Southport and spent his early years at the Everton Academy before playing a season at Swansea.

He then moved to Sunderland, making his debut against Morecambe in the EFL Trophy in November 2018, he also played against Notts County in the same competition and against Gillingham in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Hull City have allowed defender Ryan Tafazolli to join Wycombe Wanderers ahead of their Carabao Cup tie with Sunderland.

The 28-year-old,who joined the Tigers from Peterborough last summer, has joined the Championship newcomers for an undisclosed fee after making 19 appearances during the 2020/21 season.

Speaking after sealing the deal, Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said:” We’ve come up against Ryan many times down the years and he’s always been a strong, commanding presence in any defence we’ve faced, and also a real threat from our setpieces with his height and heading ability.

“O u r d e fe n c e wa s th e bedrock for our success last season and he’ll add real competition for places and give us another option with lots of games coming thick and fast.”

His exit further reduces the number of options available to Hull boss Grant McCann ahead of their trip to the Stadium of Light on Saturday – with Lewie Coyle suspended and Josh Magennis and James Scott away on international duty.
