Act quickly to get rid of rats

- Susan Watson. Address supplied.

Here we are in the year 2020 and infested with rats (vermin); a danger to health, yet we all having to live with it. Our local council (Sunderland) are aware of the problem.

The cause of the latest problem in the Hendon area is being blamed on a sewage drain. Weeks ago I reported sighting a rat in the Blind Lane area of Silksworth to Sunderland authorities.

The girl I spoke to told me there would be a £52 charge for one of their workers to come out and put down treatment.

I explained the rat wasn’t in our garden or property, so was that £52 for a street and was told no, it was per house!

I said my mother is a pensioner and she couldnt’ pay £50-plus; it wasn’t on her property, but I got nowhere.

Now I read in the Echo of rats in Somerset Street.

The council knows rats are a problem so why don’t they do a mass treatment in all areas to get rid of this vermin?

Why is it ignored and left to residents?

Sadly not all of us in Silksworth Or Hendon are wealthy enough to be throwing £50 around to the rat catcher. Instead of £40million being spent on new offices for the council, the money should've been used on more important environmental issues such as ridding the streets of Sunderland from vermin and germs. So come on Sunderland Council, dig deep and do something positive for people in your area who elect you in as councillors to look after us and our area. This is a dangerous hazardous health and safety issue, that needs addressing and eradicating quickly.
